The Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus difference
Apart from our Selective School Stream, Sydney Secondary College Balmain’s Enrichment Streams offers a unique opportunity for students to explore their interests and enhance their learning beyond the standard curriculum.
These specialised streams are designed to challenge and inspire students, providing them with the chance to delve deeper into subjects they are passionate about for an enriched educational environment. We offer three (3) enrichment streams:

Across the broader curriculum Sydney Secondary College Balmain’s also offers a Mathematics Compaction Program, a HSC Acceleration Program, a Big Picture Learning class and an array of exceptional Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - STEM learning opportunities.
Our Academic Enrichment Stream
Students are placed in this stream based on academic merit in areas such as English, Mathematics, History, Geography, LOTE, Mathematics and Technology. It provides an enriched environment with stimulating intellectual challenges and opportunities for our students to turn their gifts into talents.
Our Creativity Enrichment Stream
The Talented Athlete Program (TAP) was established to support our high-potential and gifted students to excel in their chosen sports.
Talented Athletes (TAP) Program
Our Talented Athletes Program is aimed at talented sports people, delivering opportunities for students to develop skills complimentary to their sport, engage in fitness training, monitoring of development, nutritional and motivational sessions to participate in representative sport at all levels.
HSC Acceleration Program
HSC Acceleration Program (HAP) offers unique opportunities tailored to high potential and gifted students eager to challenge themselves academically and to gain a head start on their Higher School Certificate (HSC) journey.
Big Picture Learning
Big Picture learning allows a student to focus on their interest as a central focus of the curriculum. Starting in Year 9, students may continue with Big Picture for Stage 6 at our Blackwattle Bay Campus.
STEM
STEM is thoroughly embedded across the curriculum, with state of the art facilities, an enormous variety of elective courses and clubs, and a particularly strong Girls in STEM focus. We are rightly acknowledged as a STEM lighthouse school.

Principal's message
Balmain Campus provides a supportive environment. Our students respect themselves, others and the community and are responsible, productive learners. I look forward to you becoming a part of this collaborative partnership. Parents at the school are also our partners in education. With a very proactive parent body, I encourage new parents to become involved in the Parents and Citizens Association and the many school activities organised by staff and parents to ensure the school community continues to grow and provide for our students.
The school’s facilities for teaching and learning, technology support, performing arts and sport cater for all learners. Teachers are highly qualified and actively engage in a wide range of extracurricular activities to ensure our curriculum is diverse and engaging. Strong student voice is maintained in our school with our students participating in the many leadership opportunities offered throughout the year. Eight School Leaders are appointed every year to lead and manage these opportunities.
I encourage every student to make a real and individual commitment to learning which will produce the personal excellence towards which we are aiming. I hope they will take advantage of the opportunities that are on offer at Sydney Secondary College Balmain and will grow into future focused learners.
