College Aboriginal Education Programs
Sydney Secondary College is proudly located on the lands of the Gadigal and Wongal people of the Eora nation. We acknowledge and extend our respect to Elders past, present, and emerging, and to all who have, and continue to contribute to our College.
Sydney Secondary College has been proudly recognised by the Department’s Curriculum Implementation and Provision team and featured as a best practice example, highlighting the excellence and impact of our Stage 3 to Stage 4 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Transition Programs.
This program offers students a valuable opportunity to visit our campuses and experience ‘taster’ high school classes, helping to prepare students for their high school journey in the coming years. Throughout the program, students build meaningful connections with other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, our dedicated Aboriginal Education Officers, and staff from the College’s Aboriginal Education team
We have a strong community partnership with the Inner City Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including local Elders, the Department of Education’s Regional Aboriginal Education Team, the Art Gallery of NSW, Mob Ready, Souths Cares, and nearby universities, to design and implement evidence-based programs that effectively support our goal. Through active engagement in these programs, our students are empowered to build confidence and thrive academically, culturally, and personally.
